Own Work:

This ceramic was a part of my final submission to my HSC body of work. The reason for the ‘cut out’ areas in the ceramic are to show that there are various perspectives that a simple form can be viewed by, thus revealing the overlooked beauty. The ceramic is made from paper clay, which allows an easier manipulation of larger forms, such as this work, as the ceramic stands at around 70 cm.  With this work I hope to show the complex details hidden in the simplest of forms which often is the overlooked beauty.

Great Architecture

The Taj Mahal is no doubt one of the greatest monuments of the world, being familiar to most of its population. The marble structure combines styles from traditional Persian, Turkish and Indian  architecture. It is elaborately decorated on its exterior as well as interior, being heavily textured in wall carvings and calligraphy. It is symmetrical and appears identical from all four sides. It is also interesting to know that the four large pillars around the Taj Mahal stand at 94 degrees from its base, preventing them from falling on the central structure in the case of an earthquake.

Original Photograph

Continuing the theme of traditional and monumental architecture in India, is the Qutub Minar in Delhi. This picture was taken on my most recent trip to India, at the end of last year. I think that the image displays beauty in its subtle detail, having elements of carved sandstone and marble, which show Arabic writings, as well as decorative features including flowers, stars. The tower itself is the largest minaret in India, standing at 72.5 meters tall, and surrounded by medieval structures and ruins, enhancing the atmosphere and beauty of the tower, this image displays a wall from one of the surrounding ruins.
